Which Division Should I Choose?
When registering for the softball season, players and families will be offered levels of play based on the player's league age. With an overlap in league ages, this information is intended to help decide which level is best when presented with options.
First, determine your player's league age here:
League Age Determination
SCLL considers three primary factors when determining appropriate level of play
- The player is at a level at which he or she is optimally safe
- The player is at a level where he or she will have fun
- The player is at a level where his or her skills will be advanced
Please take a look at the Division Descriptions HERE for more information.
Player Advancement
Player development is very important at SCLL.
We want to ensure that our players develop in the lower divisions and have a smooth transition to the next level. This also allows the players to build confidence.
Parents and/or players sometimes think they only play in a division for one season. That is not always the case. Every player develops at their own speed. Moving a player up too quickly may cause frustration, increase their chance of injury, and discourage them from returning next season.
By allowing a player to remain in their age-appropriate division until they are ready to move up will not only make them better ball players, but it will also make them more coachable once they advance to Majors and up.
Play-up Consideration
Stanwood-Camano Little League will make available, to properly registered players, the option for consideration of placement into the next level of play.
Consideration for placement in the next level of play is subject to the following:
- Consideration is at the discretion of Stanwood-Camano Little League and a request is not a guarantee for placement in the next level of play.
- Any consideration shall be subject to an on-field skill assessment of the player. The League shall also consider overall player safety, age, and roster availability.
Player Evaluations & Drafts
Player evaluations begin for players entering the Farm level (8–9-year old's) of play and are generally held back-to-back Saturdays in early February. Coaches and league appointed people will be on hand to evaluate players during this time in preparation for each level's upcoming player draft. If your child does not participate in the player evaluation, he/she will be placed in the draft pool of the lowest division in which he/she is age eligible.
Players that do not participate in tryouts are not eligible for All-Stars.
